5 tips to travel on a low budget

When it comes to travelling, there is one thing that puts many people off the idea. The thought that your savings might not stretch enough to cover the costs. If you are not someone who copes well with budgets, then does this mean that any hopes of travelling need to go out of the window?

We don’t think so. In fact, to help you to realise your dream of travelling and seeing the world, we have put together our 5 tips to travel on a low budget.

#1 – Always, always plan in advance

If you are travelling on a budget then one of the most important things you can do is to plan for your trip. You need to think about where you want to go, how long for and what you want to do when you are there.

You are also going to need to estimate the expenses that you will need. Once you have this in mind, not only will it give you something to aim for saving wise, but it will also help you to think about what it is that you want to spend out.

#2 – Stay in an AirBnB rather than a hotel

It wasn’t too long ago that the only choices you had when it came to travelling was a hotel or a hostel. However, now, things have changed. AirBnB has given travelers another option when it comes to accommodation, and one that could actually save them money in the long run.

The thing about AirBnB is that whilst you are getting the entire flat or house to yourself, it is often at a much lower cost than a hotel, and you get that amazing home from home feeling whilst you are travelling around.

#3 – Housesit

Another alternative for accommodation is to apply to house sit for someone in the country that you are travelling in. There are house sitting websites which you can search on and create a profile.

You are going to have to showcase why they should pick you and there may be a video interview for the position, but if you can end up not only housesitting for someone, but perhaps even getting paid for it, then this is definitely going to be a huge helping hand to your travelling budget.

#4 – Travel out of season

Every country, no matter where you are going, has peak times and off-peak times. As a general rule you need to avoid the summer holidays as this is when all travel prices are hiked up.

You should also take a look at your chosen destination and learn more about the peak times for that as a country. You might find it much cheaper to travel in the cooler times, however, this still won’t take away from the fun that you are going to have.

#5 – Work whilst you are travelling

It might not sound like the most fun thing in the world, however, choosing to work whilst you are travelling can be a huge boost to your income. Not only will it help you to earn money, but you may even find accommodation is included, which can help with your budget.

Not only this, but by working, you might meet some new people too, which will help you to make friends and connections that will stop you from getting lonely.

As you can see, just because your budget is small, that doesn’t mean that you have to give up on your travel plans. Sometimes, all you need to do is think smart about your trip and make sure that you carefully consider every single penny that you spend.
