How to Open a Bank Account with Cooperative Bank

Are you considering opening a bank account with Cooperative Bank?

You’re making a great choice! Cooperative Bank offers a variety of account options to suit your needs, and we’re here to guide you through the process.

1. Check Your Eligibility

Before you apply, ensure you meet the eligibility criteria:

  • For the standard Current Account, you must be aged 16 or over (or 18 or over for the optional overdraft) and a UK resident.
  • For Everyday Extra – the packaged bank account, you must be between 18 and 79 years old and meet the UK residency criteria for insurance benefits.

2. Choose the Right Account

Cooperative Bank offers two popular current account options:

Current Account

This no-fee current account allows you to opt in for Everyday Rewards, where you can earn rewards for yourself or a charity. You can also apply for an overdraft and manage your money through online banking and the mobile app.

  • Opt into Everyday Rewards and be rewarded monthly.
  • Available as a joint account.
  • Apply for an overdraft during the application or after the account is opened.
  • Use Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Wallet.

Everyday Extra – Packaged Bank Account

For £15 per month, this account offers all the features of a current account and includes extras like mobile phone insurance, worldwide travel insurance, and UK & European breakdown cover.

  • Mobile phone insurance, worldwide travel insurance, and UK & European breakdown cover for £15 per month.
  • Option to opt into Everyday Rewards for additional rewards.
  • Peace of mind with a banking service from the original ethical bank, supporting the community and the planet.

3. Apply Online

Once you’ve chosen the account that suits you best, head to the bottom of the page and click apply. It’s a simple and user-friendly process.

4. Approval and Welcome

After submitting your application, Cooperative Bank will assess your personal circumstances and eligibility. Once approved, you’ll receive a warm welcome to your new account, you’ll receive your PVC-free card and be ready to storm the world with your new account.

Emma can help you manage your Cooperative Bank account with ease! You can securely connect your Cooperative Bank account to the Emma app and take advantage of features that Cooperative Bank may not offer, such as rent reporting and savings pots to separate your money.

While the Cooperative Bank app provides basic banking features, Emma offers additional tools to help you manage your finances more effectively, such as tracking wasteful subscriptions, setting budgets and analysing spending.

By using both apps together, you can have a more comprehensive view of your finances and make better decisions about how to manage your money.
