How Disney+ Is Better Than Netflix (And How It Is Not)

Now that Disney+ has been launched in the US and Canada, you’ve got even more streaming choices of series and movies than you’ve ever had before. 

Awesome, right?

Of course.

This is made even better as both Disney+ and Netflix offer an amazing array of content. The most important thing to note here, however, is that both are very unique in their approach to the content they make available to you as the viewer.

So, in a lot of ways, it’s not the simplest of comparisons.

But, it’s definitely worth looking at as both platforms are tailored to suit different people’s viewing preferences.

So which one is it going to be? Disney + or Netflix?

Here’s all you need to know regarding the key differences between the two streaming services.

Disney+ Has A Greater Choice Of Independent Properties

There is no arguing Netflix’s originality towards the content they offer. The platform is well known for heaps of unique third-party content. However, you can’t deny that Disney has rights to the most valuable Independent Properties.

Disney’s collection of animated content alone would bring in a very solid following of viewers, however, the new streaming platform doesn’t stop there. 

Disney+ allows you access to the entire Pixar catalogue, titles such as the Toy Story, Monsters Inc., and Cars series, WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and A Bug’s Life just to name a few. While also offering close to every live-action Disney film ever produced, and of course not to mention every Star Wars, Marvel, and National Geographic series.

Pretty stiff competition!

Netflix Doesn’t Care If It Offends You

From the birth of Disney way back in 1923, the company has always prided itself on providing its viewers with unbiased and neutral content. 

Netflix, on the other hand, certainly is a lot more open to controversial content. And they don’t really care that it may not align with your views.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; however, risky and experimental content is sometimes great viewing. And allows series and movies that may not otherwise have found the level of followers it has if it weren’t due to Netflix being open to giving the content a stage on which to broadcast the contents producer’s views.

It both risqué and brilliant all at the same time.

I mean really can you imagine a world without Cowspiracy, Big Mouth, or 13 Reasons Why.

Disney+ Is Very Kid Friendly (This Is A Good And Bad Thing)

Depending on your current home circumstance, whether you have children or not, Disney+ will either be a heaven send for people with little ones at home or possibly a bore for couples or singles without kids.

There’s no doubt it’s great to reminisce with old titles that we all grew up with, Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid, however, if you want a little more action and something a little more adult-like, the most mature content on the platform is the Marvel and Star Wars movies.

In comparison, Netflix offers a magnitude of content that is suitable for all ages. But, they definitely take the crown for adult content. The amount of action, horror, comedy, and dramas available is huge.

Imagine life without Black Mirror or the odd Dave Chappelle Netflix Special, truly horrifying!

Disney+ Has Some Gems In The Pipe Works

At this point in time, Disney+ lacks a little bit of weight in the original programming department. Their content can be a little repetitive as we’ve all seen a lot of the movies and animated series as kids and young adults growing up. 

However, there are some great original titles on the platform already and there looks to be many more on the horizon.

The Mandalorian series is a must-watch and the Imagineering Story is a top-notch docuseries you cannot miss. But, at the moment, there are only a few titles like this on Disney+ that really scratch the viewer’s itch for original content.

That’s what’s so exciting about the future of Disney+.

Of course, there’s always going to be more Star Wars and Marvels movies, so that’s awesome, but there are also many opportunities now for Disney to really explore some new avenues and that single fact couldn’t be any more exciting.

We all know how imaginative Disney’s producers can be, we cannot wait to see what they have in store for us!

Which Will You Choose?

So, what’s the verdict?

Should you rush out and cancel your Netflix in exchange for the new Disney+ service?

Well, it’s really down to you as a viewer. The two platforms are very different beasts that offer very different content.

It’s clear that Disney’s service is a great new addition to the content streaming market. Its unique titles, fresh takes on old classics, and exciting future prospects are all big ticks in the Disney+ box.

And the monthly subscription price is definitely attractive.

However, for now it may seem that Netflix is still just ahead with the sheer number of titles it offers its viewers, its more diversified content, and well established and popular series. This is only natural, though, as Netflix has been around for many years now and Disney+ is just fresh on the scene.

So, when it really comes down to it, it’s all up to you as a viewer.

Which content would you prefer?

Do you have children?

And do you feel like a binge of Disney’s Star Wars or Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black?

The jury is still out.

I mean with just a little more money you wouldn’t have to choose between Netflix or Disney+, you could have them both and enjoy all that they have to offer.
