Emma

Meet Edoardo; The Emma Finance CEO

Now I may be a little biased, but I happen to think the team at Emma Finance are pretty cool.

To help you get to know them all a little better, we’ve put together these employee interviews. And first up, we have the Emma Finance CEO; Edoardo!

Hi Edoardo! Can you tell us a bit about who you are, and why you started Emma?

Hey guys, I am Edoardo, CEO and Co-founder of Emma.

I’m 27, Italian, originally from Rome, and have been living in the UK for the past 8 years. I moved to Manchester at the age of 19 to study Computer Science.

This is where I met Antonio, my co-founder,  with whom I decided to start a company (Emma) straight after Uni. In the early days, we knew we wanted to start a company, but had no clue what that would be.

We tried and kept trying for a couple of years until we stumbled upon something that seemed really exciting and could have a massive impact on people’s lives.

If you could only use 5 words to describe Emma, what would they be?

Funny, colourful, cute, beautiful and simple.

You’re the CEO of Emma Finance- that must mean you’re pretty good with your own personal finances? Can you tell us a bit about your own relationship with money & budgeting?

I have never been a great budgeter.

In the past, I liked to look at my balance, but not individual transactions. I still consider them a bit irrelevant. What I was really interested in was my financial progress.

My main focus has always been on my monthly cash flow, which since an early age meant “make sure it’s always positive at the end of the month”.

Budgets (and budgeting) are a great way to track individual spending in categories, but are not always an indicator of making money (or losing it).

I actually got introduced to this world at the age of 20 while using what is now one of our competitors; MoneyDashboard.

Why do you think Emma has seen so much success?

In the UK, people love new and exciting products. They’re more willing to try them than anywhere else in the world.

That’s what we found after launching Emma and it’s something we often see by the thousands of people who join us daily.

On top of this, there has been a tremendous execution from the team, which has led to an incredibly amazing product. We’re still improving every day!

What’s your favourite feature within Emma?

I am particularly interested in our new feature that tracks historical Net Worth.

You can access this by clicking on Net Worth at the top of your feed. This will show you how you have progressed over the past 12 months.

If you’re an Emma Pro user, you will be able to add any other assets you might have, such as a house or car. It’s a really great, simple way to understand if you’re building wealth.

Would you rather win £5M tomorrow or £100M in 20 years’ time?

In 20 years, I might be a boring old man, so I’d get £5m tomorrow. 😉

Can you give us any insights into the next six months at Emma? Anything exciting that we can expect to see?

We are going to become your de facto financial therapist.

Anyone who has issues with money, wants to optimise their finances, or is looking to drastically save money will be using Emma across the UK, US, and Canada.

And lastly, can you tell me why everyone should be using Emma?

After 3 years, I don’t know what a life without Emma looks like. 😉

We hope you enjoyed this interview with the Emma Finance CEO! If you want to continue getting to know the Emma Finance team, make sure you join the Emma Community. Or, reach out to us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter!
