Next up in our series of team interviews, we have Andrew. Andrew is Emma’s Senior Software Engineer and is one of the newest members of the Emma team!
Hi Andrew! Please can you tell us a bit about who you are, and what you do at Emma?
Hi, I’m Andrew, 33 years old, father of 2 amazing kids. I was born in Siberia and now live in Moscow, Russia.
I’m a snowboarder in my heart and a Software Engineer in my mind. I truly believe that there are no limits to improving your personal development skills and changing what you do.
Currently, I work as a Senior Software Engineer at Emma. I’m taking care of Emma’s cloud infrastructure and enhancing its service scalability, security, and reliability. I work on Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, GCP blocks which all together improve the process of review, testing, and delivery of new features to our clients.
What’s the best thing about your job?
It’s a great team of software engineers around me who develop an amazing Fintech product.
The processes in the company are defined so, that you have the maximum amount of time dedicated to engineering tasks and about a zero of daily routine.
I’m just happy to be a part of it.
If you could only use 5 words to describe Emma, what would they be?
Different, Finance, Gamified, Powerful, TeddyBear
What is it about Emma that you think has made it so successful?
First of all, Emma’s style is beautiful and rich to explain sophisticated finance topics in simple words to our customers.
Second, it uses an Open Banking API to connect UK/EU banks which enables the ability to aggregate all finances in one place.
Third, the team is very flexible, so they do a lot of testing of small features with customer’s segments to understand the real market fit of some particular change.
Do you have a favourite feature within Emma?
Manual accounts and Transactions, as I live in Moscow and I cannot use Open Banking features.
What do you enjoy spending your money on?
As work isn’t really pinned to some particular location, I like to travel around the world with my family and friends.
If someone gave you £1,000, would you save it, spend it, or invest it?
I would save 50% of it, spend – 30% and invest – 20%.
If you had to pick one emoji to describe your finances, what would you pick?
