  • Why It Matters

We know everyone’s pay schedule is different—so we’ve added three new budgeting periods to help you sync your budget perfectly with your income.

That’s why we’ve launched new custom budgeting periods to help you align your budget with your actual payday. Whether you’re paid weekly, fortnightly, or on the last Friday of the month, Emma now fits your financial rhythm better than ever.

What’s a Budgeting Period?

A budgeting period is the time frame Emma uses to calculate how much you can safely spend. It powers key features like:

  • True Balance – shows your real spendable balance after bills and subscriptions
  • Committed Spending – tracks upcoming payments so you’re never caught off guard
  • Payday-aligned Budgets – ensures your budget starts when your salary lands

With the right budgeting period, your spending, saving, and planning become more accurate and stress-free.

New Budgeting Periods Now Available

We’ve introduced three new budgeting period options designed around real UK payroll patterns, giving you even more control over how your budget aligns with your income. Here’s a breakdown:

Penultimate Working Day of the Month

Some UK companies pay their employees on the second-to-last working day—this is especially common in industries like banking or consulting. With this setting, your Emma budget will now automatically reset the day your salary arrives, making it easier to track spending and plan ahead without manual adjustments.

📅 Example: If the last working day is Friday the 29th, your payday and budget reset would fall on Thursday the 28th.

Fourth [Weekday] of the Month

This is perfect for those on a fixed weekday pay schedule, such as getting paid on the fourth Friday of every month. Instead of relying on a fixed date (which changes the weekday each month), this option ensures your budget lines up with your consistent payday pattern, even as the calendar shifts.

📅 Example: If you’re paid on the fourth Friday of each month, Emma will now reset your budget on exactly that day—every time.

Last Friday Before the Last Saturday

Some companies run payroll so that employees receive their wages on the Friday before the last Saturday of the month. This is typical in sectors like retail, logistics, and hospitality where end-of-week/weekend operations matter. Emma now supports this schedule too, so you can plan your bills, groceries, and nights out with confidence.

📅 Example: If the last Saturday is the 30th, and the last Friday before that is the 29th, your budget resets on the 29th.
